The Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW) was founded in 2009 as a public university in the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia with two campuses in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort.
Composed of four faculties, i.e. Technology & Bionics, Life Sciences, Society & Economics and Communication & Environment, the university currently offers 25 Bachelor and eleven Master degree programmes across the scientific spectrum such as engineering, technology and economics as well as social, natural and health sciences. At present, about 7,300 students are enrolled at the university. The number of full-time members of academic and administrative staff currently is 413.
HSRW’s curricula are multidisciplinary, practice-oriented and combine solid scientific and methodological education with opportunities for practical projects, lab workshops and internships designed to best prepare students for their future careers. HSRW stresses interdisciplinary, applied research and strives for a meaningful transfer of knowledge and experience in both teaching and research by maintaining close cooperation with industries in Germany and abroad – from small and medium-sized enterprises to large multinational corporations.
Right from its establishment, HSRW has considered the distinctive international orientation to be its trademark. This is supported by the following facts:
- Currently, 75% of all undergraduate studies and Master's degree programmes are offered in English.
- The share of international students at the university is around 47%. These students come from over 120 countries.
- A study-abroad or practical semester is part of the curricula of all undergraduate study programmes at HSRW.
The intensive phase of establishing and growing the university of applied sciences has just recently been completed. HSRW is now focusing on further developing and consolidating its profile and international partner network in line with its internationalisation and partnership strategy.
